This year marks the 125th anniversary of the Vincennes Free Methodist Church in Vincennes, Indiana. To celebrate this momentous event, a special celebration service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, followed by a banquet and program at noon.

Over these past 125 years, Vincennes FMC has developed and supported leaders in numerous countries of the world, including South Africa, Cameroon, Congo, Haiti and Japan. The congregation has sponsored numerous mission trips to more than five countries, generating significant impact. The passion for missions currently includes prayer/financial partnership for Michael and Maria Long in Greece as well as prayer and members’ individual support for other missionaries. The congregation is also community-minded by supporting a number of local ministries.

Numerous committed Christians have served Vincennes FMC alongside 43 different pastors and more than a dozen staff persons throughout the past 125 years of history. These include outstanding people serving in areas of children’s ministry, youth ministry, music ministry, bus ministry, disaster relief ministry, and men’s and women’s ministry (to name a few). The church has also sent several people into fulltime ministry.

In a letter announcing the anniversary celebration, Senior Pastor Michael W. Ewert wrote, “It has been said that ‘only one life will soon be past; only what’s done for Christ will last.’ We believe that. We also believe that the local church is the only organization on the face of the planet (filled by the Spirit of God) that can change lives. Politicians can enact legislation. Courts can interpret it. Police and military can enforce it. But only Christ can change human hearts. Thank you for your faithful support and prayerful partnership as we together change lives for His glory!”

To help the church plan for the celebration, people are encouraged to indicate (by Aug. 1 if possible) their attendance by writing the church at P.O. Box 134, Vincennes, Indiana 47591; emailing vincennesfm@sbcglobal.net or calling the church office at 812-882-5002.
